Curriculum
Mobility scheme and summary of study programme
The programme of study lasts two academic years (120 ECTS or 30 Japanese Credits) with the first year in Europe (ECN, UNIGE or WUT) and the second in Japan (Keio University). The language of instruction is English, but local language and culture courses of the host countries are included in the programme of study.
The aim of the first two semesters is to provide the students with a solid interdisciplinary background across the main areas of robotics (Mathematical Modeling, Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Design and Artificial Intelligence). Then, all JEMARO students will spend their second year at Keio in Japan. During the third semester, students will follow courses related to Control, Mechatronics, Robotics, Human Interface, Signal Processing and Biological Information. The fourth semester is set aside for the Master’s Thesis. Students carry out their research work under the joint supervision of two advisors: one from Europe and one from Japan.

First year programme (M1)
Location: Europe (France, Italy or Poland)
Credits: 60 ECTS

Credits: 60 ECTS
The aim of the first year is to provide the students a solid interdisciplinary background across the main areas of robotics: perception (computer vision, sensors, signal processing), cognition (computer science, artificial intelligence, human computer interaction), action (kinematics, dynamics, control), and mathematical foundation (modeling, simulation, optimization).
This year consists of two semesters: S1 (from September until the end of January) and S2 (from March till the end of June).
Each semester leads to the award of 30 ECTS credits.
Second year programme (M2) in Japan
Location: Japan
Credits: 10 Research Credits and 12 Lecture Credits (=60 ECTS)
For the whole second year of the master’s programme, all students will move to Keio University in Japan. The programme will be split between courses related to control, mechatronics, robotics, human interface, signal processing and biological information, and research activities conducted under the joint supervision of professors from EU institutions and from Keio. Students will devote time to the Research Track to conduct their own research and to earn Research Credits.
For the second year, the Research Track will end with the Master's Thesis Defense. Local partner companies may also be involved in the courses and in thesis supervision.

Language
The language of instruction and examinations is English. The thesis is also written and defended in English. Students also have language and culture courses as a part of the first semester and the third semester. During the second and fourth semesters, language courses will be offered outside the master’s programme for students who want to further improve their language skills. As a consequence, each student will use three languages (English and two local languages). Mastering the local language will be important if students carry on to work in one of the host countries.
