Amar, JEMARO Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, Class of 2022

What’s your name and where do you come from?

I am Amar, coming from the beautiful country of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Before JEMARO, what and where did you study?

I did my bachelors degree in Mechatronics Engineering at Erciyes University, in Kayseri, Turkey. I also did 2 exchange semesters, first in Germany at Hochschule Niederrhein, and the second in the Czech Republic, at Tomas Bata University.

What options were you considering after your Bachelor’s? Why did you choose JEMARO?

I knew I wanted to continue my studies and deepen my knowledge, especially in the area of AI. As soon as I saw what JEMARO is and what it was offering, I knew that I would apply for it.

What is the course you’ve enjoyed the most so far, and why?

We are studying at Keio University right now and we had the opportunity to take a course on space exploration engineering. It offered us a glimpse on how spacecrafts work and what is needed for a spacecraft to orbit around another object or to perform a rendezvous maneuver.

What is your research topic?

I am working on predicting future locations of pedestrians in first-person videos using transformers, a type of DL architecture very commonly researched right now.

Why did you choose Centrale Nantes?

I mainly considered the ranking and quality of the institution, and the classes offered. Centrale Nantes seemed to be the best choice and I wasn’t wrong.

Any cultural shocks since arriving in your home institution?

Every official correspondence (opening a bank account, getting your PIN for bank app, etc) is done through mail, and it takes an awfully painful amount of time to get it.

What do you find the most challenging in JEMARO?

I had a hard time finding a research topic that I liked, and for which a supervisor from Keio University and Centrale Nantes could be appointed

What do you want to do after JEMARO?

I will most probably look for a job that would be between software engineering and AI. The option to pursue an industrial PhD is also open.

A final word?

Moving to a different country and getting used to a completely new system will surely be tough, but you will gain a lot more from it. JEMARO is an excellent program, so don’t miss out on the chance to be among the few lucky students who get to be part of it, and shape the new future.
